The Office of Research provides research and development support services through the departments of Pre-award Services, Post-award Management, and Research Compliance and Integrity.
- Pre-Award Services advises and assists the NJIT community with all aspects of externally funded research proposals and industry research agreements. This includes the identification of potential sponsors and preparation of the administrative parts of proposals (e.g. budgets, sub-contracts, reporting and negotiations with the sponsor). Pre-award Services serves as the primary agency liaison for pending, active and closed research grants/contracts.
- Post-award Management provides central services in support of the financial management of NJIT's grants and contracts. The department reviews purchases, student and graduate student employment, and personnel actions to ensure that they are compliant with sponsor regulations.
- Research Compliance and Integrity is responsible for managing several separate compliance committees and processes that include the oversight of human subjects research, biohazardous materials, animal research, research-related conflicts of interest, and research-related export controls.
Department of Intellectual Property and Patents (DIPP)
The Department of Intellectual Property and Patents (DIPP) follows up with faculty, staff and student inventors on the submission and review of invention disclosures for further processing and submission of provisional patents. The DIPP also works with NJIT inventors, IP committee and external resources for the preparation, submission, and acquisition of full patents.
The mission of the Department of Intellectual Property and Patents is to promote the protection of results and intellectual property from the research grants, contracts, and other resources, and to serve NJIT community with the full support of review, processing and submission of provision and full patents, and licensing agreements.
The Department of Intellectual Property and Patents reports jointly to the Office of Research and Office of General Counsel.
